No Small Wonder

Sometimes life feels like a movie - surreal with events that unfold like a sci-fi script. In my case, it feels like an odyssey with copious amounts of technology resembling a drink dispensed from a fire hydrant; I can barely catch my breath between gulps! Between the quantum leaps of brilliant ingenuity and “progress,” it’s barely a recognizable world that I occupy.

In secular circles, scientific realities strip God of the glory that has always belonged to Him. And man has intervened in an imposing way by his endeavor to reshape our thinking. Therefore, some are left with more questions than answers.

For example, how can we ever forget when genders took a “left” turn down a dark and ominous road? We went from XX and XY chromosomes to redefining genders as a “social construct.” Because of this social evolution, Apple made sure we were equipped, in our iPhones, to keep pronouns in our contact list. Pronouns used to be based on a fixed order of two and were unchanging.

The secular world now defines new uses of pronouns like this: “The number of pronouns used is a dynamic aspect of language, influenced by individual choices and evolving social norms.” So how can any of this square with DNA analysis post-mortem? It doesn't. In other words, death reveals only two genders when the "social construct" is stripped away. Therefore, God's law (of science) prevails.

And so, the confusion ensues when society is deceived by this false narrative.

But the cognitive dissonance by the unbelieving world is this – “We have science on our side, but we’ll redefine it as we see fit.” - blogger sarcasm.

It was science that fueled unbelievers against God. And as scientists dug deeper and deeper into genetics and quantum physics, more mysteries were revealed as previous ones remained. Yes, some answers were found, but not that Darwinian evolution was talking!

The Bible tells us that evidence of God can be found in creation. Romans 1:20 clearly states: “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood from His workmanship, so that men are without excuse.”

And there it is – the crux of the atheist and agnostic belief (at large) is that the “Invisible” creates the question but does not define the answer.

The biggest mystery (to me) is how questions regarding creation and design continue to elude some of the most brilliant minds the world has ever known. Optimistically, many scientists have come to a divine understanding that a Creator is behind it all – and in particular, the God revealed in Scripture. And in His brilliance, that outpaces any of those quintessential scholars, He continues to amaze with a tapestry of creativity that perpetually goes unsurpassed!

God has given us so many beautiful realities in the branches of science. Just step into all the “ologies” of natural science, and you’ve got endless lifetimes of observation and study. God has done an incredible job at keeping scientists’ fascinations in the “fixed” natural sciences profoundly sublime and mysterious. And there is no genius on earth who has or will reconcile the beginning of creation or the purpose of life without a Creator – that’s God’s divine design.

The astronomer Fred Hoyle coined the phrase “The Big Bang” in 1949 out of frustration. Eventually, he abandoned the theory and moved to a “steady-state model” and determined that panspermia must be the origins of life. And here it is: “Panspermia is the hypothesis that life exists throughout the universe and can be distributed by space dust, meteoroids, comets, and other celestial bodies. It suggests that life on Earth may have originated from microorganisms that were transported from other planets or celestial environments.”

Hoyle decided on a mechanism of transport but failed to determine its Deliverer.

As scientists ventured into the world of quantum physics, they landed into a world of atomic and subatomic particles. Discovered in their travels was a quark – the smallest particle of all. It’s like seeing God’s humor as He demonstrates just how small He can go but still revealing the absolute NO SMALL WONDER of it all.

And as man was unable to come up with the “Theory of Everything” - proof that revealed how everything is held together or suspended in space – String Theory was born. As String Theory was technically discarded, Super String Theory emerged. It’s defined as this: “Superstring Theory is an attempt to explain all of the particles and fundamental forces of nature in one theory by modeling them as vibrations of tiny super-symmetric strings.

But despite the massive amount of work over many decades with generations of scientists, innumerable papers, conferences, workshops and more, String Theory hasn’t quite delivered on its promise to explain the mechanics of this world’s origins.

Scientists focused on things measurable by experiments. But in super layman’s terms, those cute little vibrating strings (String Theory) just weren’t observable in that quantum kind of way. Going to the smallest degree proved over and over to be futile since the inception of String and Super String Theory.

It still remains one of the biggest mysteries as earnest scientists all over the world remain perplexed by its complexities. Man has set the world in a tempest of fluidity that attempts to challenge the finite and stability of God’s created and set order. We can take rest in knowing that a loving and powerful Father has ordained things in this life that we cannot fully know. And heaven forbid we attempt to get inside of the mind of God; that would be exhausting and quite frightening for us all!

When I’ve felt my mind careening towards the great unknown, I ask God to take that thought captive and release me from its grip. It’s where I receive God’s Word that captivates my mind by these two piercing yet comforting verses:

Romans 11:24 - “Who can know the mind of God and who can be His counselor.”

Isaiah 55:8-9, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”

To ponder the eternal mind and existence of God is to take on something that has driven natural man insane or sent him on a journey into an unknowable frontier. In reality, we have all the information God has willed for us. And it’s in His book, the Bible, that answers our questions where true rest, faith and trust can be found.

Natural man does not rest in the supernatural work of God. The supernatural is out of bounds in natural scientific disciplines. But many scientists have come to embrace the supernatural and accept these divine mysteries.

God showed His purpose for us in His Son Jesus Christ. From the beginning, in Genesis 3, we see God putting forth a plan of redemption for fallen man. We can't escape that sin is ever-present. Science fails to grapple with its atrocities, and it doesn't provide a “playbook” to overcome its insidious and prevalent presence in society. That's a job fit only for a supernatural Savior!

How God has bestowed His grace and mercy on us through Jesus Christ! And this is extended to mankind through the most recognized verse in the Bible:

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son. That whoever would believe on Him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16.

To live for eternity through Jesus, and God's grace, is to overcome what we can't understand in the finite material world. It’s wonderful that so many have come to have peace in the mysteries of God and that there is no pressure, in any generation, to jump on the Quark Express!
